DNR Summer Netting Schedule 2008
Return to Joe's Lake Superior Fishing Site
The following is paraphrasing the latest Michigan DNR letter addressing their Lake Trout netting schedule. They will be conducting our spawning lake trout survey aboard the R/V
Lake Char in various areas of Lake Superior . Click here to see the latest netting schedule Use your back key to return here. They will be tagging and releasing Lake Trout. In this survey they use bottom set gill nets that are between 1,500 to 3,000 ft long and stand about 6 feet from the bottom and are set overnight. Their fall sampling stations are generally between 30 to 80 ft deep. Nets are marked with black flagged buoys labeled with DNR identification. Click here to see a description of the nets.At each of these sampling sites near Marquette, they will be deploying a temperature logger to a single buoy-anchor mooring that will have a yellow ball buoy and will remain on the reef the entire time of the survey. Furthermore, they have two additional net stations near Marquette at the beginning of each month through November. One of these additional stations is about 3 miles ENE of the lower harbor break wall light, and the other station is about 5 miles NE of the upper harbor break wall light.
The DNR can provide the coordinates of their sampling nets should you need them. They can be reached via MIDNR 800 MHz Radios on their primary radio channel on Zone B, FIMARQT, or via marine radio channel 16. Their radio call sign is R/V Lake Char. They can also be reached on the boat via cell phone number 906-458- 6925.
